Debra Murphy has a long career in Learning and Development starting back in the 1980s at a training company in her home town of Halifax, West Yorkshire. Joining the company in the Administration Department, Debra’s initial introduction to the training world was to undertake her first NVQ in Information Technology.  With the support of an excellent Manager, Debra was able to develop her own training and assessment skills to eventually achieve her own Assessor Qualification and, with night classes in Todmorden College, her Teacher's Certificate. 

Over the following few years Debra gained several further NVQs, including Learning and Development.  Relocating to the Rochdale office, Debra further developed herself to achieve her Internal Verifier Award.   When a vacancy arose at the company’s Glasgow office in 2001 Debra jumped at the opportunity to move to Scotland. 

With her ultimate quest to maintain a quality training provision, one thing led to another and in 2006 Debra took her first tentative steps into self employment.  At the same time, Debra used her existing qualifications and experience to be accepted onto and complete a BA Management degree course through Heriot-Watt University, studying with Cumbernauld College and attending night classes at the Kirkintilloch Campus. Debra is also an External Verifier.

Away from work, Debra is married to Jim and between them they have four children and four grandchildren. 

Debra's hobbies include cycling and following another successful cycle tour around Scotland in June this year and a short tour of the Yorkshire Dales in October, Debra is now putting plans together for a summer 2012 tour. 

In contrast, Debra also enjoys motorcycling, with her pride and joy being her Triumph Bonneville.

Debra is also a volunteer First Aider with St Andrews First Aid.
